Wow does this economic slump in our country really hit home. My husband and I were both eliminated from our different places of employment on the same day – what is the likelihood? I would think the odds would be like winning the lottery and then being told there is no money.
We had both been with our employers for years and although we expected my job to be in jeopardy, did not expect his to be. And, I mean years…. my dearest husband was with his company for 19 years and 9 months (just shy of 20 years for his “Omega Watch” milestone – whoopee). And, the funny thing is, they gave him the $2k watch and apologized it was not engraved, but said they could not engrave it since he truly did not make the 20 years. Don’t we all just love corporate bullshit? He was actually thrilled they did not destroy the watch with a tacky 20-year engraving.
Seriously, my husband would have left his job three years ago, but since the insurance was so excellent he really sacrificed for Nathan, so he could to continue get all his services funded via the insurance; 35 hours a week home based ABA, Speech three times a week at 45 minutes session and OT at three times a week at 50 minute sessions.
So, we should be freaking out, but we are actually not stressing and taking one day at a time. We have the insurance covered for the next 18 months thanks to Cobra – so now we just need to find employment along with the other 15% of Californian’s.
I remind myself that things happen for a reason – so this must be a real good one…
