About How iPlay
How iPlay was developed in partnership with AbilityPath.org and Nickelodeon to illustrate the power of play for ALL children. Kids with special needs play in their communities every day with the support of families, teachers, and organizations. This playbook includes amazing stories of athleticism, victory, and most importantly FUN! Play is for all ages and all abilities and in the spirit of Worldwide Day of Play, we hope this playbook encourages your family to join us in getting out and playing!
AbilityPath.org is an online hub and special needs community for parents and professionals to learn, connect, and live a more balanced life. The website combines social networking featureswith expert content from AbilityPath.org’s team of educators, parents, therapists, and medical professionals. AbilityPath is sponsored by Community Gatepath, a nonprofit that has servedchildren and adults with varying abilities for more than 90 years. Join the conversation at www.abilitypath.org.
How iPlay was put together to celebrate Nickelodeon’s 8th Annual Worldwide Day of Play and the commitment to ensuring that all kids have access to play. Share their stories of achievement and use them as resources with other families, teachers, camp counselors, or anyone in the community who might be interested in learning about how kids with special needs play.
We hope you will join us on September 24, 2011, to participate in or host your own Worldwide Day of Play event! Events can and should be inclusive and encourage cross-ability participation. Hosting your own event is easy—it’s one big playdate!
Now in its 8th year, Worldwide Day of Play is an entire day dedicated to active play. On Worldwide Day of Play, Nickelodeon goes completely “dark” for three hours, turning off programming to encourage kids to get up, get out and go play! Every year, Worldwide Day of Play is celebrated with more than 3,500 local events in all 50 states and in 13countries.
