Ann Hallum, PhD
Ann Hallum is currently the Dean of Graduate Studies at San Francisco State University and a Clinical Professor in the Graduate Program in Physical Therapy at the University of California San Francisco. Doctor Hallum is a pediatric physical therapist and a psychologist with a specialty in medical psychology. Before entering the academic world where she taught or worked as a researcher at Stanford University, Pacific University and Oregon Health Sciences University, she worked for many years at Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Stanford Medical Center working in a broad range of areas from neonatal care to long-term or chronic care.
Of particular interest, is her long-term work with families who are dealing with the impact of caring for children with medical issues at home over the lifespan. Because of her focus on children, she completed a years as a Pediatric Fellow at the University of North Carolina to study the latest information about treating movement disorders in children.
Doctor Hallum also worked in Mexico with the Hesperian Foundation and with the post-Vietnam war injured children developing programs to train local parents to teach other parents in their home areas to work with children with disabilities. Because she loves working with families, she worked for several years as a pediatric consultant at the Yolo County Development Center, California Pacific Medical Center, Community Gatepath Children’s Center and continues to work with a small group of parents who she worked with at Children’s Oakland and at Stanford.
