Cheryl Oku

Cheryl Oku is the Demonstration Site Project Coordinator for Watch Me Grow: the First 5 San Mateo County Special Needs Project, which provides early identification and intervention for children ages 0-5 years through universal access to developmental screening and linkage to appropriate services.

Cheryl is an early care and education specialist who has worked with young children, their families and programs that serve them for over 30 years. The focus of her work is improving the quality of care and education for young children. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology and teaching credentials in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Adult Education and Community College. She has experience as a teacher, caregiver, infant/toddler center co-director and parent educator. She has taught courses on child development, written articles, developed curricula and provided consultation, training and technical assistance to early childhood programs and consultation to numerous local, regional, state and national quality improvement initiatives.
