Gross Motor and Sensory
By 18 months:
  • Does not walk
  • Has hypersensitivity to sounds, different textures, or movement
By 24 months:
  • Walks on toes consistently or has trouble achieving a heel-to-toe walking pattern
  • Has trouble pushing wheeled toys
  • Appears overly irritable
Fine Motor and Vision
  • Has trouble grasping or using objects, such as utensils or a brush
  • Has trouble using both hands together
  • Has poor eye-hand coordination
  • Does not notice or point out objects that are either near or distant
  • Eyes have change in appearance—change in color or position
  • Squints often
  • Tilts head or moves objects closer to see
  • Appears to be clumsier than expected for age
  • Complains of eye pain or discomfort
Communication
  • Does not try to imitate sounds or words
  • Does not combine two words
  • Has limited vocabulary (15 words or fewer)
  • Lacks imitation of actions, gestures, or words
Cognitive and Behavioral Development
  • Has decreased understanding of the function of common objects
  • Does not follow or understand one-step instructions
Social and Emotional
  • Lacks social skills or prefers interactions only with familiar adults
  • Does not enjoy play
Daily Routines
  • Continues to use the bottle at age two
  • Has little ability or interest in feeding self
  • Has trouble swallowing or frequently coughs or chokes while eating or drinking
