WIC (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children)
For basic information or to enroll: (650) 573-2168. Six WIC sites in the county provide comprehensive nutrition services to young families. These services include: Food vouchers for the purchase of nutritious foods such as milk, cheese, formula, juice, beans, cereals, eggs, peanut butter, and others; Nutritional assessment and counseling for each participant; Nutrition education classes covering such subjects as breast feeding, introduction of solids, baby bottle tooth decay, prenatal nutrition, childhood feeding, and lots more; Other education covering subjects of importance to young families, such as immunizations, childhood lead poisoning, childhood safety, anti-smoking education; Referral to other organizations and programs when needed (e.g. alcohol and drug, CCS, Smokefree Start for Families);Coordination of service with primary care provider.

Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank is a non-profit agency that collects and distributes nutritious, high-quality food to help feed people who cannot afford to buy groceries. Low-income people of all ages are welcome, regardless of immigration status. Every food recipient is treated with dignity and respect.

In 2002 the San Mateo County Children’s Health Initiative (CHI) was established to address community-wide concern for the 17,000 county children who lacked access to comprehensive health insurance coverage. Mobile Health Clinic
The mobile health van travels around the County providing testing, birth control, vaccinations, health advice and referrals. Check the schedule for locations and times. No one will be denied service.

HIP Housing
Provides four programs to assist people in San Mateo County in finding a decent and affordable "place to call home." HIP Housing operates below market rate rental properties, facilitates a Home Sharing Program, provides a Self-Sufficiency Program which enables low-income families to transition to self-reliance and provides counseling on Home Equity Conversion.
